On April 16, 2021, CANNIBAL CORPSE released "Violence Unimagined," their fifteenth studio album and a ferocious demonstration that the death metal titans showed no signs of slowing down after three decades of brutality. The album marked the recording debut of guitarist Erik Rutan, formerly of MORBID ANGEL and HATE ETERNAL, who also produced the record at his Mana Recording Studios. Rutan's addition injected fresh aggression into the band's already punishing sound, with his razor-sharp riffs complementing Pat O'Brien's... now Rob Barrett's grinding guitar attack. George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher's trademark guttural vocals were as devastating as ever, while Alex Webster's bass work remained among the most technically impressive in death metal. "Violence Unimagined" debuted at number three on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart, the highest position in CANNIBAL CORPSE's career, proving that uncompromising death metal could achieve remarkable commercial success without a single artistic concession.
