After the mind-blowing Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone from 2005, I simply couldn't skip the new album from these prim Brits. I rushed to order the limited edition right away. Antichrist arrived just in time. AKERCOCKE's signature style is unmistakable — you won't confuse it with any other band. Distinctiveness and forging their own musical path is their creed.

The music ranges from intelligent, almost art-rock passages with progressive solos (Axiom), clean vocal runs, and even meditative shamanic interludes (Distant Fires Reflect the Eyes of Satan) to insane brutal/black/death bacchanals with inhuman screaming and equally inhuman growling. What else is there to say? Trying to explain this band's music to those who haven't yet made their acquaintance is futile, and those who already know them need no explanation.

The album is undoubtedly good, hiding plenty of surprises and interesting moments, but in my view it falls slightly short of its predecessor. The funniest part is that I can't quite pinpoint where exactly it falls behind. Most likely, the answer lies somewhere in the realm of personal perception. So my advice to you: listen to it and draw your own conclusions.
