AVULSED is, without question, an authoritative act on both the local Spanish and the global metal scene. Having fought their way through a jungle of demos and promo material and several average underground albums, they have now acquired their own distinctive sound and character. And here they are once again delivering a top-class album.

Two years have passed since the previous release by these bloodthirsty Spanish maniacs. So what has changed?

The artwork, in the band's signature style, delights us with collective suicide and an ocean of blood.

Musically, Gorespattered Suicide continues to develop the ideas of its predecessor: excellent meaty death metal with guttural vocals, elements of brutal and grind, and technically flawless execution. But this killer meat-grinding brigade doesn't confine itself to the butcher's counter — they occasionally make careful forays into other styles: symphonic intros on the track "Filth Injected" and the instrumental "Hoax Therapy," plus a cover of Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades" that does its own thing.

Everything is executed with godlike precision.

But one thought troubles me here: a couple more albums like this, and all this meaty beauty will stop stirring our imagination and rattling our already fragile psyche, merely triggering reflexive salivation and headbanging.

Then again, another thought occurred to me: consistency at this level is mastery and talent. And that's hard to argue with.
