"Engraved In Blood, Flesh And Souls" is the debut from French band GURKKHAS. Before this, the group existed under a different name — D.A.B.. The band has only three members, with one person handling both guitar and bass. All lyrics are based on war themes, and the booklet itself is adorned with various scenes of warfare — blood, violence, cruelty, death. GURKKHAS play, as one might expect, death metal — more precisely, brutal death metal with screamed yet powerful vocals. The music is fairly complex and engaging, with frequent tempo changes, killer riffs, and plenty of core-style breakdowns and slower, not entirely death metal-like passages. The production is excellent — all instruments are clearly audible. This album deserves an 8 out of 10. I recommend it to all death metal aficionados.
