What is German thrash? It's the mighty triad of SODOM, DESTRUCTION, and KREATOR, you'll tell me. And after a moment, you'll add TANKARD and HOLY MOSES to that list. The latter project has been astonishing audiences with its uniqueness for 26 years now. Thrash metal with female vocals — and extraordinarily harsh ones at that, without a single hint of clean singing. What's so surprising about that, you might ask? Perhaps nothing, if not for the fact that the band has been operating in this format since the early '80s.
So what is "Too Drunk to Fuck"? No, no, not in that sense — what it means is perfectly clear to everyone. In the booklet, Sabina Classen provides a detailed explanation: in 1990, during a tour in France, Frau Classen got absolutely blindingly drunk, after which she was captured on camera in this magnificent state. Soon a vinyl single consisting of three songs appeared, with one of those photographs gracing the cover. Sabina writes that she was surprised by the resonance it caused — apparently a number of fans were shocked by the sight of their beloved vocalist. One way or another, in 1993 the band's first and so far only "best of" compilation "Too Drunk to Fuck" was released. The question arises: so what, why is it needed? You could just listen to the albums. Such doubts can be easily addressed. And it's not about collection completeness.
First of all, the disc contains compositions from that very 1990 single. But the true value of the record lies in the seven final tracks. Two more songs — "Finished With The Dogs" and "World Chaos" — are heard in unique 1991 versions, and the track "Waste Or Try" would also be very difficult to find anywhere other than on this disc. Not enough? Then listen to the famous VENOM hit "Black Metal" performed by HOLY MOSES and WARPATH (a German thrash metal band that released 4 albums from 1992 to 1996), with Sabina on vocals, and fantastically, Cronos from VENOM singing alongside her. It would seem there are more than enough reasons to own this album, but there's one more — the most important one. The CD, reissued by the Armageddon label in 2006, contains, in addition to the main twelve tracks, a whopping 7 compositions recorded at the band's concerts in the Netherlands and Belgium in 1982-1984. Obtaining the band's demo recordings from those years is virtually impossible, thus the disc "Too Drunk to Fuck" in its current version is practically the only opportunity to hear HOLY MOSES before 1986 and confirm that speed metal in 1982 — and with female growling at that — is not a made-up tale but reality. By the way, on the back side of the booklet, when you open the disc, you'll see that very scandalous photograph of a drunk Sabina Classen from 1990.
