If you had the chance to experience the band's first full-length release "Spherical," dated 2001 -- permeated with atmospheric Nordic sound, beautifully reflecting the pristine nature of the North -- if you were inspired and impressed by untouched snow-capped peaks, if moonlight beckoned you, then without descending from those consciousness-conquering heights, we climb even higher, right up to the sun itself, as the mysterious "Solar Nebula" pierces through us.
That is exactly the name -- "Solar Nebula" -- that the Sochi-based band THERM.EYE.FLAME gave to their second creation, an even more aggressive and maniacal modern black metal effort. The band's sound has undergone some changes; compared to the previous work, you can feel a distinctive style being gradually developed. If you're looking for the atmospheric sound that was a hallmark of "Spherical," you will unfortunately be disappointed, as this work is saturated with heavier, faster, and more brutal riffs than before, although some tracks still feature industrial moments as in the past.
Overall, the album is a riveting listen from start to finish and doesn't wear out its welcome with monotony. The improved production quality is also worth noting. Progress is evident -- we will eagerly await the band's future works and undoubtedly enjoy this one in the meantime.
