STATIC-X

STATIC-X are definitely stars of the alternative scene. Their songs can be heard not only on radio and TV, but also in movies and computer games. In early April they released their fifth full-length album, and the American quartet is already on tour. Band founder and vocalist Wayne Static found time between shows to answer our questions.

Scorpio: Hello, guys! Congrats on the new album "Cannibal". Let's start :) Just imagine that I'm the manager of a major record label that you'd love to get a deal with. Give me a brief pitch about STATIC-X that would make me want to sign you :)

Wayne Static - STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static: We sell hundreds of thousands of CDs every year. Who wouldn't want to sign us?

OK, and now please say a few words about your new album, "Cannibal". How has the music changed compared to the previous album?

It's a bit heavier and more raw sounding than our previous two CDs. I wanted to explore the metal side of STATIC-X with the new songs, but still stay in the realm of evil disco.

Please tell us about your influences.

MINISTRY, PRONG, PANTERA, KILLING JOKE, SKINNY PUPPY, RICK JAMES, DONNA SUMMER, KISS.

When did you decide to become a musician?

When I was seven years old.

What do you like more: songwriting or touring?

I like both equally.

STATIC-X songs are soundtracks in games (Need for Speed) and movies. So, which songs from the new album will be or already are soundtracks?

"No Submission" is on the "Saw 3" soundtrack. We're working on other things.

In your opinion, what should a great metal video look like?

It should look nice.

What do you think about subcultures like Gothic, emo, and punk?

They are mostly fashion statements nowadays. Take a trip to the local Hot Topic store and you too can be goth, emo, or punk!

When will STATIC-X fans see you in russia and Ukraine?

I would love to tell you we're coming there, but the truth is we will not be any time soon. We have to focus on America, that's where we're popular.

What do you know about russia and Ukraine, and what do you know about your fans there?

I don't know anything about those areas of the world.

Do you often hold contests for your fans? Do you frequently meet with them online or in person?

I meet fans every day on tour.

I'll name some classic metal bands that are still active. Give me your opinion, please.
IRON MAIDEN — Good classic metal band, I never listen to them.
Metallica — We all hope they will make another good record some day.
Slayer — They have my respect for what they've accomplished.
Megadeth — I'm a casual fan, I listen to the older CDs sometimes.

Which bands are your best friends?

I have so many friends in this business I could not possibly list them all.
