A towering tribute to the late OZZY OSBOURNE has been unveiled at this year's HELLFEST, the open-air metal festival held in Clisson, France, running June 18–21. Standing six meters tall, the statue was created by French contemporary artist Philippe Pasqua and installed near the festival's main entrance, where tens of thousands of metalheads will pass beneath the likeness of the Prince of Darkness.
On Wednesday, June 17, OZZY's widow and longtime manager Sharon Osbourne shared a video of the monument online. "I'm sorry I couldn't be at HELLFEST for the unveiling of Ozzy's statue," she wrote. "Unfortunately I had an unexpected trip to the hospital earlier in the week. A big thank you [to] Olivier Garnier, Ben Barbaud and everyone at HELLFEST. Special thank you to Philippe Pasqua for the absolutely stunning statue."
The new sculpture continues a HELLFEST tradition of honoring fallen metal icons. In June 2022, the festival unveiled an upgraded statue of MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister, created by sculptor Caroline Brisset, replacing an earlier plaster monument that had begun to crumble.
OZZY OSBOURNE died on July 22, 2025 at the age of 76. His death certificate, filed in London, listed a heart attack as the cause, noting that the BLACK SABBATH singer also suffered from coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease. A private funeral was held on July 31, 2025 at the Buckinghamshire estate he and Sharon bought in 1993, attended by 110 family members and friends, including his SABBATH bandmates, Robert Trujillo (METALLICA), Rob Zombie, Zakk Wylde and Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT). The day before, thousands of fans lined the streets of Birmingham to pay tribute.
OZZY's final performance came at the "Back To The Beginning" charity concert in Birmingham, where he reunited with the original BLACK SABBATH lineup — Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — for a set of classics including "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Paranoid". Seated on a black throne and visibly moved, he told the crowd: "You have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
The HELLFEST statue ensures that, for years to come, the festival OZZY helped inspire will greet its faithful in the shadow of the man who gave heavy metal its voice.
