EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee spoke at length about the growing camaraderie among women in metal during a recent appearance on The Mistress Carrie Podcast, timed to a milestone moment for the band on the charts.
EVANESCENCE and THE PRETTY RECKLESS currently hold the number one and two spots on the Active Rock chart simultaneously — a rare feat for two bands fronted by women. "The rock and metal sisterhood is amazing because it's an ever-growing group," Lee said, reflecting on the shifting landscape for women in heavy music. Asked what it takes to succeed in the genre, she added: "It's gotta be you're really hardworking and talented... you just gotta bring it," before praising the broader culture shift toward mutual support: "Women supporting women... the more women see that we're not tearing each other down, the more accepted they can imagine they'll be."
The comments come as EVANESCENCE ride high on the success of their album "Sanctuary," released June 5, which launched a North American tour on June 11 at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida. The run, featuring support from NOVA TWINS, SPIRITBOX, POPPY, and K.FLAY, continues through August 2 in Clarkson, Michigan, before EVANESCENCE head to Europe for dates running from early September through early October, including a stop at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre on October 26.
A double-vinyl edition of "Sanctuary" is scheduled for release on September 4. Notably, the band is donating $1 from every ticket sold on the tour to Plus1, a humanitarian and medical relief organization, continuing EVANESCENCE's history of pairing arena-sized success with charitable outreach.
With SPIRITBOX and POPPY both fronted by women joining EVANESCENCE and THE PRETTY RECKLESS on the road and charts this summer, Lee's comments underscore a visibly shifting balance in a genre historically dominated by men — one she and her peers appear determined to keep pushing forward.
