New York hardcore mainstays MADBALL have released the official music video for "Don't MisStep," a track pulled from the band's tenth studio album, "Not Your Kingdom," out now via Nuclear Blast Records.
Clocking in at just 1:34, "Don't MisStep" delivers the exact high-octane energy MADBALL has built its reputation on since forming in the late 1980s, packed with the kind of two-step-ready breakdowns and floor-punch riffing that have made the band a fixture of the New York hardcore scene for nearly four decades. The video was co-directed by frontman Freddy Cricien alongside Dave Causa, who also handled filming and editing.
"Not Your Kingdom" marks MADBALL's longest gap between studio albums, arriving eight years after 2018's "For The Cause" following a release date that had originally been pushed back from earlier this spring. The record was tracked at The Boneyard Studios in Nashville and produced by Andrew Baylis, Aiden Thompson and Grady Saxman, and it stands as the band's first album to feature bassist Paul Delaney, who stepped in after longtime bassist Jorge "Hoya Roc" Guerra departed in 2023.
Cricien has described the new material as carrying some of the band's most personal lyrics to date, tempering MADBALL's trademark tales of street-level survival with a more introspective look at his own perspective on the current state of the world. That balance between hard-nosed aggression and reflection runs through the album's 14 tracks, positioning "Not Your Kingdom" as both a continuation of the band's uncompromising sound and a document of how far its lineup and outlook have shifted since "For The Cause."
Formed in 1988 as an offshoot of AGNOSTIC FRONT, with Cricien — the younger half-brother of AGNOSTIC FRONT's Roger Miret — taking the mic as a pre-teen, MADBALL has remained one of the most consistent bands in New York hardcore across ten studio albums. With "Not Your Kingdom" now out and "Don't MisStep" serving as its latest visual calling card, the band shows no signs of slowing down after nearly forty years on the scene.
