Louisville, Kentucky black metal band ANAGNORISIS are ending a decade-long absence with their fourth album, Caregriever, out October 23. The new single "Choke" is premiering exclusively at Everything Is Noise.
Caregriever documents watching the gradual decline and death of a loved one over five years — the space where caregiving and grief become inseparable, where mourning begins years before death, and where devotion, resentment, hope and despair coexist. Musically the album abandons much of the band's earlier symphonic scope for a darker, more immediate post-black metal sound woven with industrial and punk.
"'Choke' feels to me more immediate and suffocating," says the band's Zachary Kerr. "The beginning is a testament to what happens when resilience becomes a gag. There's an anger and desperation to it that's really central to the album. We didn't want the singles to simply be the most immediately accessible songs — we wanted them to reveal different pieces of the story and the emotional progression of the record."
Everything Is Noise writes: "The sounds may be bleak, but it is clear that they are derived from a place of processing grief... touching, angry, and cathartic."
ANAGNORISIS also return to the stage. The Chicago release show on October 23 will be their first concert in ten years; December Midwest dates follow soon, and Northwest Terror Fest 2027 — alongside NAPALM DEATH, DEADGUY, ARTIFICIAL BRAIN and others — brings their first-ever West Coast shows.
