LETHERNAL UTOPIA have released "The Halo Of God", a standalone single and the Toulouse band's first new material since their debut album.
That debut, "Illusion Of Time", came out on July 29, 2025 — ten tracks running from the title song through "Samsara", "Echoes" and "Apocalypse", and closing on a bonus live cut, "Live To Die". "The Halo Of God" is not attached to a follow-up record; it is being issued on its own, and is available now through the band's Bandcamp, where it went up on May 2, 2026.
The band formed in Toulouse in 2023 around a fairly specific intention: to put the emotional weight of melodic metal together with the mechanics of metalcore, and to keep both halves legible. They name IN FLAMES, HEAVEN SHALL BURN and TRIVIUM as reference points, which places them accurately enough — melodic death metal structure, hardcore-derived weight, clean lines used as contrast rather than as a chorus obligation. Their own Bandcamp tags hedge across death metal, melodic metal and melodic metalcore, and that spread is closer to honest than most self-descriptions manage.
"The Halo Of God" is built on the same terms: fast riffing broken up by rhythmic shifts, with the vocal carrying the melody over the top rather than sitting inside it. The band describe its subject matter as tension, transcendence and inner conflict.
For a group two years old with one album behind them, a standalone single is a sensible move — it keeps something in front of listeners without committing to an album cycle, and it is a short way into a band most people outside France have not heard yet.
