Seattle blackened sludge trio STRICKEN will release their second album, From Dark Dimensions An Unspeakable Presence Awakens, on November 6 via Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. Preorders are open, and a video for "Darkness Impenetrable" is out now.
The band began as a duo of bassist/vocalist Rob Ropkins and guitarist Nick Charlton; drummer Chris Wozniak (LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, EARTHEN GRAVE, I KLATUS) joined in 2017 after answering a Craigslist ad citing CELTIC FROST, COFFINS and AUTOPSY. Their 2022 debut From A Well Of Emptiness, A Stygian Serpent Born also came out on Horror Pain Gore Death.
The new album packs five epic songs exploring the dark subconscious, self-destruction, existential dread and nihilism — a bullseye for devotees of NEUROSIS, INTER ARMA, YOB, CONAN, TRIPTYKON and HIGH ON FIRE. Mastering was handled by James Plotkin (KHANATE, EARTH), with artwork by Tom Denney (BLACK COBRA, SOILENT GREEN, WEEDEATER).
"'Darkness Impenetrable' is about being in the presence of a darkness so complete that it is wholly repressive and incomprehensible, be it an entity or an emotion," writes Wozniak. "The video was shot in Snohomish County, Washington, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, a location that we felt captured the essence of the song."
