Seattle blackened sludge trio STRICKEN have shared a visualizer for "Dust From The Grave", the 12-minute opener of their second album, From Dark Dimensions An Unspeakable Presence Awakens. The record arrives November 6 on CD and digital via Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. Decibel Magazine hosted the premiere today.
The song follows "Darkness Impenetrable", the video that launched the album campaign last month. Where that one was shot in the Cascade foothills, "Dust From The Grave" looks much closer to home and far more toxic. Drummer Chris Wozniak describes it as cosmic horror colliding with the very real horror of radioactive pollution: bury the nuclear waste, he warns, and one day you find you've created a monster.
The visualizer was put together by Tom Denney, who painted the artwork for both STRICKEN albums. Wozniak points out that much of the montage comes from the Hanford nuclear site in Eastern Washington, which he calls one of many examples of humanity's careless attitude toward nuclear waste and other dangerously powerful stuff.
STRICKEN began as a duo of bassist/vocalist Rob Ropkins and guitarist Nick Charlton before Wozniak (LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, EARTHEN GRAVE) joined in 2017. The new album was recorded by the band, engineered by Charlton, mixed by Wozniak and mastered by James Plotkin. Expect a sludge-doom base with blackened and post-metal edges; the band name-checks NEUROSIS, INTER ARMA, YOB, CELTIC FROST and TRIPTYKON as touchstones.
STRICKEN are lining up regional dates in support of the record and are already working on new material.
