VOID SECTOR ZERO, the progressive thrash trio of guitarist Christian Muenzner (NECROPHAGIST, ex-OBSCURA), vocalist/bassist Alex Weber (REVOCATION, MALIGNANCY) and drummer Gabe Seeber (DECREPIT BIRTH, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, CARACH ANGREN), have released "Extraterrestrial Disassembly," the second single from their debut album Dead Space Enigma. The record is out December 11 via Season of Mist.
The song follows "Vortex Divinium" and brings in a guest: Morean (ALKALOID, ex-DARK FORTRESS) adds clean harmonies over Weber's bass runs. Its premise is pure cosmic horror. "'Extraterrestrial Disassembly' is about a DMT trip gone horribly wrong," Muenzner explains. The lyric chases one question: what would happen if DMT were extracted from a dead body?
At 3:24 it's the shortest track on the album, but Muenzner says it still packs in odd-meter and proggy riffs, a clean chorus and nods to the bands he grew up on, naming CORONER, MERCYFUL FATE, ANNIHILATOR, HELSTAR and HOLY MOSES. The video was filmed and directed by Jesus Hernandez.
The three first played together in 2022, as members of OBSCURA on the world tour for A Valediction. "I've always wanted to play tech-thrash," Muenzner says, and when he started his own band in that style, Weber and Seeber were his first call. Seeber says playing with musicians of this caliber will push him to get better, while Weber calls the album "a real blast to work on" and credits Muenzner's demanding songs with taking his bass and vocals to new levels.
Dead Space Enigma comes on CD digipak and gatefold vinyl in black and two marbled color variants.
