WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Release New Album 'Estuary'

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM released their new album Estuary today, October 23, via Relapse Records in North America and Century Media Records in Europe, the UK and the rest of the world. The six-track record is out on all streaming platforms and in physical formats.

The Olympia band call it their most ferocious and genre-bending work so far. Estuary is a concept album set a thousand years after the end of civilization: survivors wander haunted ruins, mutant creatures roam, portals stand open, and a new religion grows out of the wilderness. "If wilderness overcame the cities in the future, the estuaries would be realms of power and magic," Nathan Weaver (lead vocals, guitars) explains. In the album's world, those estuaries are where magic has taken physical form and spirits good and evil walk the earth.

Musically, the record is rawer and more volatile than their recent work, with noisy industrial textures, massive percussion and what the band describe as "seething gothic guitars." Two songs came out ahead of release, both with videos: "Ghosts Among the Obelisks" and the title track.

The band produced Estuary themselves. Most of it was recorded at their own Owl Lodge studio in Olympia, Washington, with drums tracked by Nicholas Wilbur at The Unknown, a converted church in Anacortes. Touring bassist Galen Baudhuin (ARIDUS, STREET TOMBS) plays bass.

Next comes the road. The North American tour runs from January 12 in Vancouver to February 10 in Seattle, with STYGIAN BOUGH and SPIRIT POSSESSION in support and a stop at Fire In The Mountains in Colorado on January 15.
