Filipino extreme metal veterans DEIPHAGO have unveiled "Undeified", the first song from their long-awaited sixth album, Hexessence Satan. The record is set for release in the first half of 2027 via Hells Headbangers, and the new track is streaming now on the label's official YouTube channel.
Running past the eight-minute mark, "Undeified" is hardly a radio-friendly calling card, and the band say that was exactly the point. They describe it as one of the most twisted, dissonant and uncompromising pieces they have ever recorded, built on unconventional guitar work, drumming that keeps shifting the direction and momentum of the music, and arrangements that step outside the usual structures of black metal and war metal. "We didn't choose this song for accessibility," the band explain. "We chose it because it makes a statement."
Hexessence Satan is conceived as a seven-part progression of "operations", and "Undeified" stands for the fifth of them: the abolition of divinity. According to DEIPHAGO, this is not a tale of Satan overthrowing God and claiming his seat. "It is about the complete elimination of divinity itself," they say. "No throne is inherited. The throne is abolished."
The band chose to open the campaign with this track to confront listeners with the album's musical direction without giving away the whole seven-step arc. In their words, "Undeified" captures the violence, dissonance and unpredictability DEIPHAGO are known for, while showing a level of composition they have never attempted before. "This is not about following what black metal or war metal is supposed to sound like," they add. "It is about taking our music somewhere it has never been."
The new album follows I, The Devil and, by early accounts, pushes the band further into experimental territory. Hells Headbangers promise more details in due time.
