IRON MAIDEN and graphic novel publisher Z2 are marking the 40th anniversary of Somewhere In Time with Somewhere In Time: The Graphic Album, an anthology of new comics inspired by the 1986 album's eight tracks. It will be released worldwide on March 2, 2027.
Each song gets its own science-fiction story, drawn from the menacing future world of the record. Bookending them are a prologue and an epilogue written by award-winning writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and illustrated by Andy MacDonald, imagining the moments that led up to the album's famous cover — so yes, plenty of cyborg Eddie.
The creative lineup draws from comics and film: Steve Niles, Goran Parlov, Benjamin Raab, Deric Hughes, Matt Haley, Dan Hernandez, Adam Markiewicz, David Dastmalchian, Stan Yak, Corin Hardy, Montos, Stefano Cardoselli, John Reppion, Leah Moore, Vincent Locke, Henry Sansom and Davide Fabbri. Bill Sienkiewicz, who has worked with Bruce Dickinson, writes the introduction, and the book closes with an in-depth interview with guitarist Adrian Smith about writing and recording the album.
Smith calls the Somewhere In Time Eddie "my favorite version of Eddie, probably," pointing to the "genuine power and menace" of the muscular, futuristic figure and how well it fits the music.
The deluxe and platinum editions come in a metallic "Time Machine" slipcase with a die-cut green acetate targeting lens and cover art by Blake Armstrong, plus prints of all four covers. The platinum edition adds four framed Eddie cards by Davide Fabbri and a bookplate signed by Smith. Retail copies carry a Tony Harris cover, with variants by Jay Geldhof (EMP) and Dan Mumford (Rarewaves).
The book follows the band's 2025 visual history Infinite Dreams and this year's documentary Burning Ambition, as IRON MAIDEN's "Run For Your Lives" tour heads to North America in 2027.
