Denver blackened thrash band NECROPANTHER have shared "The Thing From Another World", the second single from their fifth full-length, The Book Of Change. The track premiered today, November 2, at No Clean Singing and is now streaming on the band's Bandcamp. The album arrives on November 13 on CD and digital.
We covered the album announcement and opening single "The Tempest" in October. The new song sits seventh on the 13-track record, and guitarist Joe Johnson calls it the album's "sprawling set piece," while admitting that "sprawling" is relative for a band like them. At its core it's a lean, direct blackened thrash song, but midway through the band strip it down and rebuild an orchestrated melodic section, with Johnson and guitarist/vocalist Paul Anop playing a harmony line together before Johnson takes a solo. He credits THIN LIZZY and HELLOWEEN-style melodic metal for that moment and says the shifting keys under the solo made it one of the harder parts of the record to play.
Thematically, the title points straight at the shapeshifting creature of the classic sci-fi story. Johnson frames it as a modern, materialistic version of the diabolical bargains found earlier on the album in The Tempest and Faust: "You called down the thunder – now you've got it!"
The Book Of Change builds a whole record around transformation, from Shakespeare and Goethe to The Thing, The Fly and the arcade game Rampage. The band produced it themselves; Felipe Patino engineered it at Green Door Recordings in Denver, Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, HIGH ON FIRE) mixed it at GodCity Studio and Alan Douches mastered it. The cover is by Max Sherman.
NECROPANTHER are Paul Anop (guitar, vocals), Marcus Corich (bass, vocals), Joe Johnson (guitar) and Adam Frost (drums).
