I didn't have particularly high expectations for this disc, as the band's previous albums hadn't impressed me much — they contained a mix of not always palatable brutal death and satanic-occult black metal.
This release, however, pleased me immensely.
I would now characterize the band's style as avant-garde extreme metal, still rooted in black-death as before, but now featuring prominently progressive elements, striking doom passages with characteristic brutal growling, subtle touches of keyboards and wind instruments, tasteful clean vocals, and screaming. You might ask, what's the difference from the previous works? The difference is that now all these seemingly unrelated elements are united into a magnificent dark canvas that you want to gaze upon again and again.
