An ornate solo creation from the keyboardist of SYMPHONY X. MICHAEL PINNELLA presents for our consideration just under an hour of skillful piano pieces of varying complexity and melodiousness. From the entire array of etudes, nocturnes, and assorted polonaises, the unprepared ear will absorb only a fraction, which in no way diminishes the value of this musical work. Bright Tainberg-esque grace notes ring out within the framework of unobtrusive orchestrations, adding extra variety and pointing us toward the works of Liszt, Chopin, Debussy... Everything seems wonderful. As always, statistics have their stern "against" to offer: the fact that from Beethoven's incalculable number of pieces we only know the "Moonlight Sonata," that from Bach's no lesser output we recall only the organ "da-da-da-daaaam," and that we remember Mozart only by rare titles, suggests that 150 years from now, nobody will remember MICHAEL PINNELLA — however faithfully he may follow the established canon of classical music.
