Dutch gothic metal pioneers THE GATHERING will conclude their "Mandylion" 30th-anniversary tour with a final concert on Saturday, January 16, 2027 at AFAS Live in Amsterdam. The show marks the culmination of roughly 29 performances staged worldwide, reuniting the classic-era lineup — including vocalist ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN.
The band confirmed the Amsterdam finale will celebrate both Mandylion and its 1997 follow-up Nighttime Birds, explaining that "the two albums are inextricably linked and together represent an important chapter in our creative evolution." Tickets go on sale Friday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m.
The reunion run began with five sold-out shows in the band's hometown of Nijmegen last August before expanding throughout 2026 with performances across Europe, North America and South America. The final stop before the Amsterdam send-off is scheduled for October 17 at Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile.
Released in August 1995, Mandylion was THE GATHERING's third album and the first to feature Van Giersbergen on vocals — a record widely credited with helping define the atmospheric, female-fronted gothic metal template that countless bands would later follow. Guitarist René Rutten relished performing the material at full volume on the anniversary tour, describing the experience of playing with "two guitars and really full force, amps on 11" as "absolutely fantastic."
Van Giersbergen left THE GATHERING in 2007 after 13 years with the group, going on to a prolific solo career and collaborations with the likes of DEVIN TOWNSEND and AYREON. She admitted the overwhelming demand for the reunion caught the band off guard: "We didn't expect this many people to react on it and want a ticket."
For longtime fans, the Amsterdam concert represents a rare opportunity to witness one of European metal's most influential records performed in full by the musicians who created it — before the classic lineup once again goes its separate ways.
