ANTHRAX has released a music video for "The Edge Of Perfection," the second single from the band's upcoming album "Cursum Perficio," due September 18 via Megaforce in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast in Europe.
"Cursum Perficio" — Latin for "my journey has come to an end" — will be ANTHRAX's first album in ten years, following 2016's "For All Kings." It was recorded at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Los Angeles in 2022 and produced by Jay Ruston alongside the band, with some of the material dating back as far as 2015. The video for "The Edge Of Perfection" was directed by Academy Award winner Joel Harlow and cuts live performance footage with cinematic sequences.
Guitarist Scott Ian did not hold back on the new track, calling it "the greatest ANTHRAX song in the history of ANTHRAX. We have not written anything this great." Drummer Charlie Benante drew a direct line to two of the band's most beloved songs, saying, "When I think about songs like 'Only' and 'Indians,' you know that you hit something and you can feel it. That's the way I felt about 'The Edge Of Perfection.'"
Benante also addressed the decade-long gap between albums, explaining that for years he simply "didn't have it to write" and "didn't feel it" creatively, until the band found its footing again on the new material.
"The Edge Of Perfection" follows "It's For The Kids," the album's first single released in May, and features the band's current lineup of Ian, Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and guitarist Jonathan Donais.
ANTHRAX has long been counted among thrash metal's "Big Four" alongside METALLICA, MEGADETH and SLAYER, and the band's catalog since forming in New York in 1981 spans classics such as "Among The Living" and "Persistence Of Time." A ten-year wait between studio albums is unusual even by the band's own standards, making "Cursum Perficio" one of the most anticipated ANTHRAX releases in years.
"Cursum Perficio" will be released on multiple vinyl variants through various retailers. It arrives September 18 via Megaforce and Nuclear Blast.
