METALLICA and the American Red Cross are reopening a partnership that, in its first year, collected roughly 93,000 blood donations worldwide. This time it has a permanent address.
The Red Cross x Metallica Blood Donation Experience opens September 28 at Fashion Show Las Vegas on the Strip, timed to the band's upcoming Las Vegas residency, and runs through March 19, 2027. It is a pop-up donation centre built to feel like the backstage of a METALLICA show, staged with the band's own foundation, All Within My Hands, and sponsored by Delta Air Lines.
The centrepiece is a replica of the drum kit Tama built for Lars Ulrich on the "WorldWired" tour. Donors can sit behind it. Everyone who gives is automatically entered to win one — the same replica, built by Tama — and receives a limited-edition shirt designed by Squindo while supplies last. There is a Delta Backstage Lounge for refreshments afterwards.
Through mid-November the centre runs Monday to Friday, noon to 6 p.m., with a revised schedule to follow for the winter. Appointments go through RedCrossBlood.org/Metallica, 1-800-RED CROSS, or the Blood Donor App.
The context is that blood supply is a chronic problem, not a seasonal one. The Red Cross supplies about 40 percent of the blood used in the United States and depends entirely on volunteers to do it. Donors need to be 17 in most states — 16 with parental consent where state law allows — weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health, with ID required at check-in.
The collaboration began in April 2025 with drives at selected stops on the United States leg of the "M72" tour. It expanded nationwide under the Give Where You Live banner, pulling in more than 25,000 donations across the country, then went international as the tour did, for a global total of around 93,000.
All Within My Hands, founded in 2017, has by now put $19 million into career and technical education through its Metallica Scholars Initiative, $8.8 million into food insecurity, and $6.2 million into disaster relief and local services. Earlier this month the foundation auctioned a custom track loader with every cent going to the same programmes.
METALLICA, meanwhile, have pushed "M72" into 2027 with twelve more North American stadiums. The Vegas residency lands in between.
