SYMPHONY X vocalist Russell Allen has given fans an encouraging update on the highly anticipated follow-up to the band's 2015 album "Underworld," confirming that a substantial amount of material has already been written.

Speaking with Ed Hack for the This Day In Metal channel, Allen revealed that guitarist Michael Romeo has been working extensively on compositions. "Tons of music has been written by Romeo and stuff, and lyrics by the guys," Allen said, adding that the band is "pretty far into it in terms of the amount of material we have now."

Romeo, who has also been composing film scores, was praised enthusiastically by Allen: "He's producing God-level orchestration sort of stuff. He's a straight-up badass composer."

The new album will feature a conceptual theme, though Allen chose not to reveal specifics. "Yes, there's totally a concept thing emerging," he confirmed, promising it will align with SYMPHONY X's established artistic identity. Lyrically, Allen plans to focus on first-person character perspectives, emphasizing emotional depth and personal connection.

The band has intentionally cleared their touring schedule for the remainder of 2026 to focus on finishing the record, with Romeo previously stating he has approximately three hours of material that needs to be organized and arranged.

"Underworld," released in July 2015, was the last SYMPHONY X studio album. Fans have been waiting 11 years for its follow-up — but based on Allen's comments, the end may finally be in sight.
