Mongolian hunnu-rock phenomenon THE HU have shared the official video for "Grey Hun," the latest single from their third studio album "Hun," due July 24 via Better Noise Music.
The band — Galaa, Jaya, Enkush and Temka, who wield traditional instruments such as the morin khuur, tovshuur and tsuur alongside Mongolian throat singing — conceived "Grey Hun" as an anthem of self-acceptance. Guitarist-singer Enkush said the track grew from the image of "a man riding his horse through a vast landscape," with the group taking great care to make sure its positive message landed clearly. The result is a percussive, galloping piece that fuses ancestral Mongolian sound with widescreen heavy riffing.
"Grey Hun" follows the single "Lost Soul," a collaboration with Jonny Hawkins of NOTHING MORE that is currently climbing the rock charts and marks the first official team-up between the two acts. "Hun" comprises 11 tracks steeped in Mongolian folklore while reaching for universal themes of identity, heritage and human connection — the band's most ambitious expansion yet of the hunnu-rock blueprint they pioneered.
THE HU's global stature continues to grow. The group recently contributed "Pray To The Sun" to Netflix's live-action "One Piece," and in 2022 became the first rock or metal band to receive UNESCO's "Artist For Peace" designation, an honour shared with the likes of Herbie Hancock.
A heavy touring slate lies ahead. Following their North American headline run, THE HU will support ROB ZOMBIE and MARILYN MANSON across the United States in August before launching a European tour in September. "We took our time to do this right," the band said, signalling their intent to bring ever-larger cultural productions to bigger stages.
