DEATHGRAVE are letting the whole thing out early. "Hell Is Evil", the San Jose band's new album, is streaming in full at Decibel Magazine ahead of its release this Friday, August 21 via Tankcrimes — and the premiere comes paired with an interview.
Decibel's verdict points at the same widening remit the band have been describing all summer. "On 'Hell Is Evil', DEATHGRAVE open themselves to outside influences, pulling more from thrash, death metal, punk, noise rock and even industrial than ever before," the magazine writes. "As a result, the 32-minute record is packed to the gills with action."
That was the plan. "Our goal for this album was to seamlessly bend musical genres and create a unique sound," guitarist Greg Wilkinson said when the title track surfaced. "We allowed you to gaze into our neighborhood on our second album 'It's Only Midnight'. 'Hell Is Evil' will plunge you with haste into our whole world."
We covered that title track when it premiered last week — the band's own description of where it drags you is worth reading, along with the full track listing and the lineup of Bay Area veterans behind it.
Tankcrimes are putting the record out on CD and digital alongside two vinyl variants: a half deep purple / half black ice pressing with purple, black and silver splatter, and a straight deep purple.
DEATHGRAVE have also added a second show to the books. They play San Francisco's Great American Music Hall on September 11 with NECROT and IRON LUNG, and now Café Colonial in Sacramento on November 13 with DEVIL MASTER.
Thirty-two minutes, ten tracks, riffs the label promises are thick enough to keep you afloat.
