SLAYER released their sixth album, "Divine Intervention," on September 27th, 1994, through American Recordings, self-produced at Ocean Way in Los Angeles and Sound City in Van Nuys. It was their first record with Paul Bostaph, who had replaced Dave Lombardo in 1992, and the first in nearly four years — the label had stalled over how to market something this explicit, filling the gap with the live "Decade of Aggression." Tom Araya said the extra time meant more work went into it than any previous SLAYER album. The lyrics take in Rush Limbaugh, Reinhard Heydrich and Jeffrey Dahmer, and Wes Benscoter reimagined the old Slayergram for the cover. Kerry King has always disliked the final mix. Reviews were mixed; it reached number eight on the Billboard 200, the band's best showing to that point.
