Danish occult metal pioneers MERCYFUL FATE released their first official record, the self-titled EP also known as "Nuns Have No Fun", on November 8, 1982, through the independent Rave-On Records. The four-track, 45rpm record was cut in just two days in September 1982 at Stone Studio in Roosendaal, Netherlands, produced and mixed by Jac Hustinx with Ole Poulsen drawing the notorious cover. It introduced King Diamond's falsetto shrieks and corpse paint alongside the twin guitars of Hank Shermann and Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen and drummer Kim Ruzz, on "A Corpse Without Soul", "Nuns Have No Fun", "Doomed by the Living Dead" and "Devil Eyes". Its blasphemous lyrics and intricate, riff-packed songwriting led straight to Roadrunner and "Melissa" the following year, and became a blueprint for black metal's later generations. The EP was reissued in 1987 on "The Beginning" and appeared officially on CD for the first time in 2020 through Metal Blade.
