VIRGIN BLACK: "Requiem – Fortissimo" Track Listing, Sample Available

The End Records has set a February 19, 2008 release date for VIRGIN BLACK's "Requiem – Fortissimo", the much-anticipated follow-up to 2007's "Requiem - Mezzo Forte".

On its latest album — the second instalment of a trilogy — VIRGIN BLACK exhumes the death/doom vibe of early PARADISE LOST and MY DYING BRIDE albums. This is by far the band's rawest and heaviest work to date.

The album's cover art was created by esteemed fashion photographer Andrew Dunbar whose work will be seen throughout the series.

Comments singer/keyboardist Rowan London: "I should feel a sense of dread offering up something so atypical for us to be interrogated and scrutinized. But the fearlessness that we inhabited while writing 'Fortissimo' and the 'Requiem' series survives to see its unveiling. An album not so much about death as the absence of life; it's damn heavy but its countenance is far more brutal than its sound could ever be. Long live the 'death choir.'"

You can hear the track "Silent" by visiting The End Records' MySpace' page at this location.

Says London about the song: "The track 'Silent' simultaneously represents both the divergences and links between Fortissimo and Mezzo Forte. I'm sure that it will surprise a few people."

"Requiem – Fortissimo" track listing:
01. The Fragile Breath
02. In Winters Ash
03. Silent
04. God in Dust
05. Lacrimosa (Gather Me)
06. Darkness

MANOWAR drummer Scott Columbus has told Brazil's NovoMetal.com that he is working on his first solo album.

"Over the past year, I've been working on a solo project, and it's instrumental — there is no vocals, it's all music," he said. "I've got about 80% of the songs [done] and hopefully, in the next year, 2008, it will get released. [Musically it's] a little different from MANOWAR, [but] it's really cool. DECAPITATED: the obituary in the official site

This message is from the official site of DECAPITATED.

Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka – our brother and dearest friend succumbed to head injuries sustained after a bad van accident while on tour in Russia. He was 23.

One of the youngest and most promising drummers in the genre, together with Decapitated he has consistently released albums both crushing and invigorating in their musicianship.

Extremely talented – he has been involved in other side projects: Dies Irae, Panzer X.
He will be missed and can not be replaced.

The metal scene will be much sorrier with his passing…

The Editorial of TheMetalList.com expresses deepest condolences to family, relatives, friends and colleagues of Vitek

GAMMA RAY - track listing "Land of the Free II"

GAMMA RAY recently inked a deal with Steamhammer/SPV. The group's new album, "Land of the Free II" (cover artwork), is scheduled for release in Europe on November 19 (November 16 in Germany). The CD will arrive in the U.S. in January.

"Land of the Free II" will be a conceptual continuation of the group's 1995 classic "Land of the Free", and will contain around 65 minutes of music.

GAMMA RAY produced their new album themselves. All four musicians — Kai Hansen, Henjo Richter (guitar), Dirk Schlächter (bass) and Daniel Zimmermann (drums) — are experienced enough to translate their ideas at the studio. But for the first time in ages, the band allowed themselves the luxury of enlisting outside support for certain stages of the recording process. "We wanted to have a clear head in some areas to be able to concentrate on the important things," Hansen explains the enlistment of Tommy Newton (HELLOWEEN, UFO, etc.) and his Area 51 studio in Celle, where the new material was mixed. Newton also took care of the drum parts as a sound engineer at GAMMA RAY's own studio.

"Land of the Free II" track listing:
01. Into The Storm (3:47)
02. From The Ashes (5:26)
03. Rising Again (0:27)
04. To Mother Earth (5:11)
05. Rain (5:16)
06. Leaving Hell (4:20)
07. Empress (6:22)
08. When The World (5:44)
09. Opportunity (7:14)
10. Real World (5:42)

KORPIKLAANI Completes Work On New Album

Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI have issued the following update:

“We have been in the studio again every now and then since last spring, and we have more material ready than is needed for an entire album. It is already mixed and ready.

"The album became quite long, but we just could not drop any of the 14 songs. It was already hard to decide which songs would become bonus tracks. So, we offer to you 14 new songs plus 2 bonus tracks on our upcoming album 'Korven Kuningas', which means 'King of the Woods'.

"This time the album cover will be painted, not Photoshopped. The old man 'Vaari' will be figuring on the cover again, so it will look familiar and faithful to everyone, even though a different technique is used."

"Korven Kuningas" is tentatively scheduled for release in February 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
